Even the tiniest scratch can ruin a disc and can make the data stored on it impossible to read. But with this popularity also comes a problem, and that's the fact that optical discs can get scratched easily, putting the data stored on them in danger. As such, optical discs are very cheap, they can store a fair amount of data and they can be played using a large variety of devices, like CAR stereos, computers, audio players and so on. The popularity of these formats is due to the large number of advantages they offer. The CD and DVD formats are used today by a lot of people, even though they were released a long time ago.
